The Case Against Antidepressants.

I have written several blogs regarding the use of antidepressants. I have compared the safety and efficacy of the Alpha-Stim against the most popular depression medications. I have also shared with you a study published in the American Journal of Psychiatry that disproved the effectiveness of a growing trend in treating depression which requires you to take a combination of medications.

Using Technology to Assist with Pain Management

June 21st, 2011

What would you do if there was a technological treatment for pain that was portable, about the size of a deck of cards, indefinitely reusable, and had no serious side effects? What if it had a side-benefit of helping anxiety, insomnia, and depression? Would you want to try it?

More is Not Always Better

May 6th, 2011

A recent science update released from the National Institute for Mental Health focused on a specific study that was published in the American Journal of Psychiatry. The study was an effort to determine if a combination of antidepressant medications would be more effective than a single drug in the treatment of depression. The study reported “after three months, remission rates among the three groups all were around 38 percent. After seven months, remission rates continued to be similar among the three treatment groups and averaged around 45 percent” meaning that a single drug + placebo was just as effective as two antidepressants combined. Alpha-Stim Assists in Humanitarian Efforts

April 12th, 2011

In February 2011 EPI had the opportunity to donate 3 Alpha-Stim units and a year of supplies to the humanitarian organization, Mission to the World (MTW). The donation was sent to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia in March and was to be used in the treatment of pain and psychological disorders among the HIV positive population.

EPI is a proud supporter of the Police Assistance Coalition and we have donated devices for our brave soldiers in Afghanistan. We have also aided in the relief efforts following hurricane Katrina, typhoon Morakot, and the earthquakes that destroyed parts of China in 2008 and now Japan in 2011.

Treating Depression with Alpha-Stim

March 16th, 2011

The Archives of General Psychiatry reports that 10% of Americans are currently taking antidepressants. That equates to approximately 31 million people on antidepressants in the United States alone. That also means about 10 billion dollars goes to big pharma every year in antidepressants sales. Walter Reed Army Medical Hospital released a study that reported 8-14% of returning soldiers have serious mental health issues including PTSD and depression. It was estimated that between 23 and 31% returned with some mental health impairment.

The Science Behind CES Introduction

“He ought not to risk his reputation by presenting to the learned body anything which
appeared so much at variance with established knowledge, and withal so incredible.”
-The British Royal Society

At the beginning of every book on electromedicine there is a brief history of the use of electricity to cure physical and/or emotional ailments of mankind, dating back to early Greek practices. Since this book is being authored by Dr. Daniel Kirsch, a pioneering inventor of microcurrent treatment for pain, it can simplify matters to quote from his Alpha-Stim 100 Owner’s Manual, now printed in six languages:

With eight distinguished speakers, this is the most comprehensive course on the subject available on film. Now you can watch it at your leisure and share it with others to help educate them about MET and CES technologies. The lectures are moderated by neurobiologist and world renowned expert on electromedicine, Daniel L. Kirsch, PhD, who also presents three lectures. Additionally, neurosurgeon Pierre LeRoy, MD provides a brief talk on the history of this therapy, prosthodontist Michael Singer, DDS speaks about central sensitivity syndrome which helps explain why Alpha-Stim gets such good results on a wide variety of seemingly unrelated disorders with an emphasis on migraine headaches, psychiatrist Rose Marie Pitt, MD speaks about her experience and provides fascinating cases where Alpha-Stim has controlled patients when drugs have failed, anesthesiologist Howard Rosen, MD speaks about how much better than drugs Alpha-Stim therapy is for fibromyalgia and headaches, anesthetist and pain specialist Michael Perry, CRNA, PhD speaks about his personal and professional experiences with Alpha-Stim, veterinarian Ava Frick, DVM gives a fascinating talk about her work with animals and the human-animal bond, and Steve Mann, PhD discusses how he has incorporated Alpha-Stim into his pain management practice and had it accepted by brand name into the scope of practice guidelines for psychologists in his state.
